Resumen
Uno de los rasgos principales del siglo XIX fue la conciencia de ser un tiempo nuevo que debía darse a sí mismo un lenguaje capaz de asir la singularidad de su ser histórico y de prever su evolución y sus tendencias a futuro. La literatura operó como sede privilegiada para la creación de ese lenguaje en diálogo con otros discursos y dispositivos culturales de la época. A partir de estas premisas, este proyecto releva y estudia categorías, conceptos, ficciones y géneros de literaturas europeas en lengua no hispánica que configuran representaciones y experiencias temporales del siglo XIX. Los materiales que estudiamos abarcan textos ingleses, franceses y alemanes de los distintos momentos del siglo.
El trabajo con los materiales se organiza en seis ejes:
1. contemporaneidad epocal,
2. imaginación del futuro,
3. configuraciones del pasado histórico,
4. efectos de las nuevas tecnologías,
5. temporalidades de la experiencia interior,
6. articulación entre tiempo humano y tiempo natural a la luz de las nuevas teorías científicas.
Concebimos el tema no solamente como un aporte al conocimiento histórico de literaturas del pasado sino como un insumo útil para el pensamiento sobre nuestras propias temporalidades presentes, los estudios de otros espacios culturales del siglo XIX y la indagación de los vínculos de nuestra imaginación actual con las transformaciones decisivas que tuvieron lugar en esa época de revoluciones, industrialización y globalización. El proyecto se relaciona con otro anterior aun en curso dedicado al futuro (+).

Modes of temporality in nineteenth-century literature: categories, concepts and problems
Abstract
One of the main features of the nineteenth century was the awareness of being a new time that had to give itself a language capable of grasping the singularity of its historical being and of foreseeing its evolution and future trends. Literature operated as a privileged site for the creation of this language in dialogue with other discourses and cultural devices of the time. Based on these premises, this project examines and studies categories, concepts, fictions and genres of European literatures in non-Hispanic languages that shape representations and temporal experiences of the nineteenth century. The materials we study include English, French and German texts from different periods of the century.
The work with the materials is organised along six axes:
1. epochal contemporaneity,
2. imagination of the future,
3. configurations of the historical past,
4. effects of new technologies,
5. temporalities of inner experience
6. articulation between human time and natural time in the light of new scientific theories.
We conceive the subject not only as a contribution to the historical knowledge of literatures of the past but also as a useful input for thinking about our own present temporalities, the studies of other cultural spaces of the 19th century and the investigation of the links of our present imagination with the decisive transformations that took place in that era of revolutions, industrialisation and globalisation.
